TMT bars or Thermo-Mechanically Treated bars are high-strength reinforcement bars having a tough outer core and a soft inner core. The very first step of the manufacturing process involves passing the steel wires through a rolling mill stand. Once the TMT bar cools down, it slowly turns into a ferrite-pearlite mass.
TMT bars are widely used in the constructing buildings and other concrete structures. These bars are used to reinforce the concrete. Concrete has good compressive strength but poor tensile strength. This is why TMT bars are required for additional reinforcement.

The overall carbon percentage is also kept low in these bars for improving the weldability and ductility of steel.
This variation in the micro structure of a TMT bar makes it highly suitable for high quality highway construction work. Since they are free of surface defects TMT bars are much better at withstanding torsional stress making them highly corrosion resistant compared to lower grades of steel construction bars.

Reasons behind the Collapse of a Building and What Could be the Preventive Measures?

Whenever a building collapses, whether it is old, during or after construction, under repair, or during natural vulnerabilities, such as cyclone or earthquake, it will send waves of shakes in the minds of the public. People start wondering, can such a disaster happen with them and their family. Of course, there is no basis to be scared, as the rate of collapse of new buildings to the existing ones is negligible.

1. The Foundations are not Strong Enough
Properly designed foundation resting on well-compacted soil at adequate depth increase the stability of the building for lifetime and reduce the risk of the building collapse.
